We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sr. Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee payroll operations for our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll processing, tax compliance, and labor cost analysis within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely and accurate payroll execution in compliance with federal, state, and union regulations, and plays a key role in supporting cost accounting and labor efficiency reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly or weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including piece-rate payroll/pay per unit payroll.
  • Verify timekeeping records, overtime hours, shift differentials, and job classifications.
  • Coordinate closely with HR and operations to ensure accuracy in employee data, pay rates, bonuses, and benefit deductions.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including FLSA, IRS, and Department of Labor standards.
  • Reconcile payroll transactions and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns and ensure timely remittance of payroll liabilities.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll reports, labor records, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with production and cost accounting teams to provide accurate labor cost reporting and analysis.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll and employee data.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, multi-state tax laws, and labor union agreements.
  • Proficient in payroll and accounting software.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees across all levels of the organisation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) is a plus.
  • Experience with time tracking systems used in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and labour cost optimisation strategies.
