Beach Baker is delighted to be partnering with a highly respected property consultancy that is looking to strengthen its established Business Rates team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced MRICS Business Rates Surveyor to join a growing and well-regarded practice with an impressive portfolio of public and private sector clients. The team advises occupiers, investors, property companies and public sector organisations on rating strategy, appeal management and liability mitigation across a broad range of commercial property assets.
The role offers genuine progression opportunities and would suit an ambitious individual looking to take the next step in their career within a successful and expanding business rates practice.
The Role
Working as part of a specialist team, you will advise clients on all aspects of business rates across commercial property throughout London, the South East and wider UK.
You will provide strategic advice, manage appeals, identify cost-saving opportunities and support clients in navigating an increasingly complex rating environment.
The role will involve advising across a variety of asset classes including:
- Offices
- Industrial and logistics
- Retail
- Mixed-use developments
- Public sector assets
- Large commercial portfolios
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of business rates instructions and key client relationships.
- Prepare and submit Check, Challenge and Appeal cases.
- Undertake property inspections, measurements and valuation assessments.
- Represent clients in negotiations with the Valuation Office Agency and local authorities.
- Deliver strategic business rates advice and liability mitigation strategies.
- Support business development initiatives and identify opportunities for growth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and professional contacts.
- Mentor and support junior surveyors within the team.
- Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with professional and quality standards.
About You
- MRICS qualification.
- Strong business rates experience gained within private practice.
- A detailed understanding of rating legislation and appeal procedures.
- Experience managing significant client portfolios and complex instructions.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and commercial awareness.
- Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
- Experience supporting and mentoring junior team members.
- Full UK driving licence.
Experience advising public sector or local authority clients would be beneficial but is not essential.
