Building Surveyor – Surrey Location: Near Dorking, covering London and Surrey portfolios Contract: Full-time with hybrid working opportunities About the Company: Beach Baker are delighted to be working with the National Trust who boasts one of the largest and most varied let estates in the UK. They’re seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join their Let Estate Management Team. If you have a passion for building conservation and strong interpersonal skills, this could be the role for you. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing properties across the London and Surrey regions, with your base near Dorking. Why Join? As a Building Surveyor, you’ll be part of a dynamic team managing a diverse range of residential, commercial, agricultural properties, and holiday cottages. From Morden and Osterley in London to the River Wey in Guildford, and across Surrey at locations such as Polesden Lacey, Hatchlands Park, and the Surrey Hills, your work will cover some of the Trust’s most stunning estates. The team plays a key role in managing assets that support their £50m national rental income, essential for funding their conservation efforts. You’ll enjoy a varied workload in breathtaking locations, where no two days are the same. One of their top priorities is creating a healthy, resilient environment for both people and nature. You’ll be instrumental in advancing this mission, contributing to the future of the UK’s largest private landowning charity and the properties they protect. Your Role: The National Trust have ambitious plans to enhance the condition and energy efficiency of their Let Estate properties. You’ll work closely with the Senior Building Surveyor, Building Supervisors, and Estate Managers to set up, manage, and execute projects. Technically proficient in conservation, maintenance, and current building regulations, you’ll be hands-on and proactive. You’ll manage small and medium-scale works within their let portfolio, with opportunities to take on larger projects in the future. Your responsibilities will include: Supervising repairs and maintenance across your portfolio Planning and delivering both short- and long-term cyclical building work, compliance tasks, and property improvements with financial responsibility Managing conservation efforts on historic and listed buildings, conducting surveys, creating work schedules, and coordinating with contractors and tenants Acting as a project manager, lead consultant, or commercial client on small to medium projects when needed Adaptability and flexibility are key, as each day will present unique challenges. You’ll need to stay organized, prioritize effectively, and think creatively to handle unexpected issues.
