The areas this role will have responsibility and oversight, globally, are:
- Lead tax input on acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and strategic investments, including structuring, diligence, and integration.
- Support corporate restructurings, legal entity rationalisation, step‑plans and sequencing, and other simplification activity across the Group.
- Provide early‑stage tax input on strategic change initiatives, ensuring risks and opportunities are clearly articulated and commercially aligned.
- Prepare and review technical papers, Board materials, and transaction documentation, ensuring robust governance and clear audit trails.
- Partner with Corporate Development, Treasury, Legal, Finance, HR, and Reporting teams to deliver holistic, well‑coordinated advice.
- Manage and challenge external advisors, ensuring high‑quality, pragmatic outputs that support Aberdeen’s commercial priorities.
- Monitor international tax developments and assess their strategic impact.
- Act as the primary interface with HMRC on employment tax matters, working with external advisors for technical input while partnering with HR, who lead operational delivery, to ensure clear, coordinated and well‑governed outcomes.
- Maintain and strengthen Advisory Tax controls, documentation frameworks, and review processes.
Relevant experience for the role includes:
- ACA/CTA qualified or equivalent (qualification by experience will be considered).
- Strong analytical skills – with a natural curiosity and confidence to proactively question and dig deeper if information does not make sense.
- Excellent communication style and a collaborative mindset to aid establishing and maintaining effective working relationships across the business.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong data management skills with an attention to detail.
- Adaptable and enjoys a dynamic, rapidly changing working environment.
- Commercial Mindset – Demonstrates an understanding of how the organisation creates value and uses this insight to make decisions that support long‑term performance.
