We are seeking a skilled and proactive Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our client's engineering team within a fast-paced production environment. This role is responsible for performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment to ensure optimal performance and full compliance with relevant standards including food safety, health & safety, and engineering best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and ensure timely resolution to minimise downtime.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on production equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults efficiently.
- Identify and recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Ensure strict adherence to health & safety, food hygiene, and engineering compliance standards.
- Develop and maintain H&S documentation within area of expertise.
- Identify, record, and report safety concerns including near misses and accidents.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and preventive maintenance programmes.
- Communicate effectively with processing and quality teams regarding engineering activities.
- Facilitate contractor engagement, including issuing permits to work.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records within the CMMS system.
- Participate in root cause analysis and support corrective action implementation.
- Provide engineering support during audits and compliance inspections.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, installation projects, and small-scale engineering projects.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development and multi-skilling opportunities.
Qualifications
Essential: Completion of a recognised, time-served engineering apprenticeship (electrical, mechanical, or multi-skilled) to SVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Desirable: Higher education qualification (HNC or HND) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Skills & Experience
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Proven experience in mechanical and electrical fault finding and repair.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems and continuous improvement techniques.
- Experience using CMMS systems and basic IT tools (e.g., EAM systems and safety reporting platforms).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
