If you’re the kind of infrastructure engineer who likes understanding how things fit together, not just clicking through a portal, this is a strong opportunity. This role suits someone who enjoys proper infrastructure and already has genuine Azure experience. Ideally, you’ll also understand on-prem environments and what sits behind the cloud, because this is a business moving a large part of its estate into Azure the right way.

You’ll be joining at the start of a major migration journey. Around 70% of the on-prem estate is planned to move into Azure over the next 2 to 3 years, with a longer-term goal of reaching 80 to 90% in the cloud. So this is real transformation, not just talk. It offers a strong mix of core infrastructure and cloud exposure. You’ll stay close to the on-prem environment that keeps the business running, but the bigger driver here is Azure.

The preference is someone with genuine hands-on Azure experience who can contribute meaningfully to the migration, while also being comfortable supporting and understanding the on-prem estate behind it. What matters is that you understand how environments are built properly. Not just how to spin up a server, but how networking, connectivity, storage, identity and access all fit together. That includes understanding how IAM, RBAC and security profiles should be structured and applied properly across a hybrid environment.

This is not a pure DevOps role. It’s a broad infrastructure position with a clear cloud trajectory. You’ll work across:

  • On-prem infrastructure including VMWare, Windows Server, storage and backup
  • Nimble storage and Veeam
  • DR technologies including Zerto and Brocade
  • Azure migration work including lift and shift, replication, and some movement towards SaaS
  • Landing zones and connectivity, including site-to-site VPN and ExpressRoute
  • Azure IAM, RBAC and wider access control configuration

A delivery partner is supporting the migration, so you won’t be expected to lead the full programme alone. You will, however, play a meaningful role in it and help ensure the work is being done well. This is more than BAU support. It’s a chance to stay hands-on with core infrastructure while using your Azure experience in a role where it will genuinely matter.

There is an on-call element. The rota is currently 1 week in 6. Calls are generally infrequent, but this is still an environment where out-of-hours support can be needed. You’ll receive an on-call allowance, plus additional hourly payment if called upon beyond the agreed terms.

This is a strong fit for someone who wants a genuine infrastructure role, real Azure involvement, and the chance to be part of a major migration that will shape the estate for years to come.
