Due to continued investment in its capital programme, Be First is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to join its Capital Delivery Team on a 12-month fixed-term basis.

About the Role

Reporting to the Assistant Construction Director, you will be responsible for managing the successful delivery of a range of capital works projects from feasibility and procurement through to construction and completion. Projects will predominantly consist of refurbishment schemes, although new build and demolition projects may also form part of the portfolio.

You will work closely with internal teams, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham stakeholders, consultants and contractors, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a portfolio of housing projects with a combined annual value of up to £20 million.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of multiple housing, education and built environment projects.
  • Develop project delivery strategies, programmes and risk management plans.
  • Manage projects through feasibility, design development, procurement, construction and handover.
  • Oversee the appointment and management of consultants and contractors.
  • Manage project budgets, cost plans and financial reporting.
  • Monitor contractor performance and challenge programmes where necessary.
  • Lead project meetings and provide regular progress updates to senior stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with construction legislation, building regulations and CDM requirements.
  • Support procurement activities and advise on suitable contract and delivery strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with local authority teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance regarding Section 20 consultation requirements and leaseholder considerations where applicable.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and drive successful project outcomes across all stages of delivery.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Significant experience delivering construction projects within a local authority, public sector or regulated environment.
  • Strong project management and contract administration experience.
  • Experience managing refurbishment projects with construction values up to £15 million.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and construction contract management.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing external consultants and contractors.
  • Strong financial management and reporting skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and negotiation abilities.
  • A thorough understanding of health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Section 20 consultation requirements and leaseholder considerations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Teams and PowerPoint.

Ideally, you will hold Chartered status with RICS or CIOB. However, candidates with relevant construction project management qualifications and demonstrable experience will also be considered.
