This is a part-time (0.8 FTE), maternity cover contract.

What you will be doing:
- Assess applications for grant-aided and Heritage at Risk projects, examining specifications and drawings, and recommending appropriate action.
- Take responsibility for Historic England's input into programmes of work at Heritage at Risk sites, supporting area-based grants in conservation areas, and working creatively with partners.
- Work proactively with owners, local authorities, funding bodies, and building preservation trusts to promote a sustainable future for historic assets on the Heritage at Risk Register.
- Act as an intelligent client in relation to feasibility studies, options appraisals, specialist advice, cost estimates, and contractual arrangements.
- Monitor grant-aided or commissioned work to confirm it meets necessary standards, recommend grant payments, and undertake post-grant monitoring.
- Provide architectural and urban design advice to maximise the role of the historic environment in areas of change.
- Provide urban design and technical advice to members of other regional teams.
- Be an effective advocate for constructive conservation and champion the work of Historic England.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by line management.
Who we are looking for:
- Professional qualification in architecture or building surveying, with current ARB registration or chartered RICS membership and accreditation in building conservation.
- Extensive experience of the repair of historic buildings and project management.
- Good working knowledge of English secular and ecclesiastical architecture of all periods.
- Excellent knowledge of historic building construction, current conservation practice, and methods for the repair and alteration of historic buildings.
- Ability to approach repair problems and solutions in a practical and creative way.
- Good working knowledge of current construction industry regulations in relation to historic buildings.
