BDS are pleased to be working with a leading housing association in London to recruit an M&E Engineer Supervisor.
The role: In this role you can expect a varied, people‑focused role that blends inspections, stakeholder engagement and technical expertise. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background and hands‑on mechanical or electrical experience who is now looking to move away from tools‑based work into a position focused on oversight, quality assurance, and ensuring contractors deliver work to the highest standards.
Main duties:
- Ensure that contractors deliver high‑quality, compliant installations and maintenance across your defined region.
- Carry out weekly site inspections, checking quality, identifying failing systems, and capturing asset data.
- Provide expert technical support to the M&E and housing contracts teams.
- Attend emergency callouts, helping provide rapid assessments to support operational decisions.
- Review contractor quotations to ensure value for money and the selection of appropriate systems.
- Prepare clear file notes and reports, highlighting any health & safety issues or compliance risks.
- Work directly with residents and stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain positive relationships.
Essential Criteria:
- A solid understanding of Building Services systems.
- Hands‑on experience in a mechanical or electrical discipline (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, C&G, 18th Edition).
- Experience managing contractors and overseeing works on site.
- Strong report writing skills and confidence producing technical specifications.
- Full UK driving licence and transport.
Desirable:
- Experience working in the social housing sector.
- Knowledge of asset management software / tools.
- Degree/HND/HNC in Building Services Engineering or related disciplines.
- Happy to participate in a voluntary out-of-hours on call rota to undertake work outside standard hours, with extra remuneration (£150 per day).
