Working as part of the Site Maintenance team, you will perform repairs and maintenance activities across plumbing, carpentry, decorating, HVAC, electrical systems, and general building fabric, while supporting preventative maintenance programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Person

You are a skilled maintenance professional with a strong background in building and facilities maintenance. You enjoy solving problems, take pride in maintaining high standards, and are committed to working safely at all times. You are comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise tasks, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and respond quickly to operational issues. You bring a proactive approach to identifying improvements and helping create a safe, efficient, and well-maintained working environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and compliance of Baxi's facilities and infrastructure. The role involves delivering both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, supporting statutory compliance requirements, managing contractors on site, and contributing to continuous improvement activities. The position is physically demanding and includes manual handling, working at height, operating power tools, working in confined spaces, and carrying out external building maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities across buildings, facilities, and ancillary equipment.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on plumbing, carpentry, decorating, HVAC systems, doors, windows, fixtures, and general building infrastructure.
  • Respond promptly to facility maintenance issues, identifying solutions and escalating concerns where appropriate.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and compliant.
  • Operate safely in line with company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, ensuring correct PPE is always used.
  • Identify and report safety risks and improvement opportunities through company HSE systems.
  • Support environmental improvement initiatives that reduce the impact of site operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and completed tasks within maintenance management systems.
  • Support calibration and maintenance activities for applicable equipment and assets.
  • Assist with office and workspace refurbishment, renovation, and relocation activities.
  • Manage and coordinate external contractors and suppliers, ensuring permits, documentation, and safe systems of work are in place.
  • Support compliance activities, audits, certifications, and statutory inspections.
  • Work within agreed maintenance and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of maintenance processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Participate in 5S activities to improve workplace organisation, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Analyse maintenance performance metrics and support improvement plans where required.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to deliver facilities-related improvement projects.
  • Represent the site professionally when interacting with visitors, suppliers, contractors, and external bodies.
  • Undertake all mandatory training and actively support personal and professional development.
  • Support a positive team culture and contribute to a "One Team" approach across the business.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support site operations.

Requirements

  • Relevant engineering qualification such as HND, BTEC, Professional Level 3 Award, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or infrastructure maintenance role.
  • Strong practical maintenance skills across multiple disciplines, including building fabric, plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and general repairs.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems, including ISO 9001.
  • Experience working with maintenance management or ERP systems.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with budgets, cost control, or expense management.

Desirable

  • Green Belt or Black Belt Lean Six Sigma qualification.
  • Experience using SAP or M3 systems.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles.
