You’ll be providing Tax Advisory services to start-ups and scale-ups, private businesses and FTSE listed multinationals. You’ll be someone who can work pro-actively, managing your own tasks, but you’ll also be confident collaborating with others, communicating regularly with senior managers, Directors, and BDO’s Partners to enable us to serve our clients effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to our clients.

The Expatriate tax team is part of our Global Employer Services offering, which also includes Employment Tax, Share Plans and Incentives and Strategic Reward Advisory. We service our corporate clients with internationally mobile employees (and international remote workers) across the country and around the world. By providing expertise in many different specialist areas of tax, we cross work with multiple other business lines in BDO UK, and extensively with our wider global BDO teams, to deliver wider business solutions.

From meeting clients’ evolving business needs, managing changes to legislation, planning tax training programs, giving one to one support to more junior colleagues and contributing to how we continue to rapidly grow our business, there are always fresh challenges to face in the Expatriate Tax team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide Tax compliance and advisory services to a wide range of clients.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients in conjunction with the Manager/Senior Manager including control of billings, and identification of opportunities to improve recoveries, together with cash collection.
  • Pay attention to self-development and continuing professional education with a view to progressing within practice.
  • Develop professional relationships with clients and within the Firm and adapt the approach for the relevant audience.
  • Understand potential risks to the Firm in relation to the Firm’s quality control procedures and raise to the appropriate person.
  • Get involved in special assignments on an ad hoc basis.
  • Guide and supervise less experienced colleagues.
  • Support, train, mentor and advise others, including more junior staff, in own area as well as in other teams in the firm.
  • Challenge current practice – driving improvements and championing change.
  • Take personal responsibility for own decisions and actions.

Requirements include:

  • An in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of taxation with specialist knowledge and the ability to deal with complex tax issues.
  • Project and staff management experience.
  • Ability to manage a substantial client portfolio profitably whilst being able to actively seek opportunities for developing new clients and for selling new services to existing clients.
  • Experience of dealing with client senior management.
  • Educated to degree level and/or CTA and/or ACA qualified or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable post-qualified experience.
  • Technical knowledge including competency at a tax assistant level, sufficient knowledge of tax returns, associated computations and preparing advice to clients.
  • Experience with tax arrival and departure briefings.
  • Expatriate tax technical matters, including UK residency issues, expatriate tax specific concessions and an understanding of how earned income is taxed.
  • An excellent standard of written work.
  • Strong communication skills.
