We’re BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions all organisations need to navigate today’s changing world. We work with the companies that are Britain’s economic engine – ambitious and entrepreneurially-spirited businesses that fuel the economy – whether privately or publicly owned - and directly advise the owners and management teams that lead them.
Our Tax team is friendly, driven and diverse, servicing our clients across the country and around the world. By providing expertise in many different specialist areas of tax, they collaborate across BDO to deliver wider business solutions. From meeting clients’ evolving business needs to managing changes to legislation, there are always fresh challenges to face in the Tax team. If you’re after a career that will keep you on your toes, we’ll give you the autonomy to drive your career forward.
Our Tax Assurance & Risk Management (‘TA&RM’) team is a fast-growing collaborative team of around 15 people nationally led by three dedicated tax partners, who together support a wide variety of private, private equity-backed and listed clients across sectors. Our work has helped many clients meet their legislative tax governance compliance obligations and strategically improve their tax operations and tax control framework, manage tax risk and provide assurance to tax authorities and business stakeholders.
This is a dynamic client-facing role that requires excellent client relationship, communication and project management skills, and the ability to distil complex concepts into easily understood information suitable for a wide array of stakeholders. Most of your work will be client facing and will require you to actively manage client portfolios, manage project delivery, coordinating junior resources and BDO tax specialists, to deliver exceptional client service.
Owning client relationships with the senior team is key, and you’ll be heavily involved in business development and innovation activities to support our business growth. This role will involve consideration of a range of taxes including corporate, indirect and employment taxes; our work is broader than any one area of tax and at the senior manager level, we require candidates with a depth of tax experience, specifically with TA&RM experience, with good commercial awareness who are eager to learn, adapt and contribute to this area of growth for the business.
Importantly, we are looking for natural curiosity about how tax functions and businesses run, from the governance, processes and controls to the people and technology they use and the tax technical issues relevant to them.
You’ll be both comfortable working pro-actively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with the team at all levels to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with, acting as a key part of BDO’s relationships with our clients.
We are looking for someone:
- To act as a key point of contact within the firm for our clients, together with the senior team.
- With experience of TA&RM work (including such as tax strategy, SAO and CCO compliance, HMRC Business Risk Reviews, developing the tax control framework and tax operating model, advising on tax risk management e.g. tax risk registers).
- With a strong presentation style, and confidence in hosting workshops, training sessions and webinars, often to Board level, and with strong tax technical experience to be able to talk knowledgeably at a good level about a range of tax issues.
- With experience in end-to-end project delivery, who can lead projects with complexity to deliver quality advice.
- Who has a keen interest in helping clients develop tax governance and developing bespoke scopes of work to meet our clients’ needs.
- With personal responsibility for own decisions and the actions of others.
- Educated to degree level, and/or CTA and/or ACA qualified or equivalent, or relevant experience.
We’re committed to agile working, and we offer every colleague the opportunity to work in ways that suit our clients, the task at hand, our teams, and you. At BDO, we’ll help you achieve your personal goals and career ambitions, and we have programmes, resources, and frameworks that provide clarity and structure around career development.
Mutual support and respect is one of BDO’s core values and we’re proud of our distinctive, people-centred culture. From informal success conversations to formal mentoring and coaching, we’ll support you at every stage in your career, whatever your personal and professional needs.
At BDO, you’ll always have access to the people and resources you need to do your best work. We know that collaboration is the key to creating value for the companies we work with and satisfying experiences for our colleagues - BDO’s people represent a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and we’ll encourage you to build your network, work alongside others, and share your skills and experiences.
At BDO, we help entrepreneurial businesses to succeed, fuelling the UK economy. Our success is powered by our people, which is why we’re always finding new ways to invest in you. Across the UK thousands of unique minds continue to come together to help companies we work with to achieve their ambitions.
We’ve got a clear purpose, and we’re confident in our future, because we’re adapting and evolving to build on our strengths, ensuring we continue to find the right combination of global reach, integrity and expertise.
