We work with the companies that are Britain’s economic engine - ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high growth businesses that fuel the economy - and directly advise the owners and management teams that lead them.

To ensure our services and applications are fit for the modern market, our IT team collaborates with every department. They develop, explore and implement new ideas helping us to change the future of accounting, tax and business consulting. They maintain the tech that keeps us advancing, testing and adopting the future of financial technical solutions to find new and exciting ways to drive us forward.

In an IT role at BDO, you’ll become part of a team that acts as the backbone for our business. No matter who you are or what your skillset is, we’ll give you the training and support you need to achieve whatever you put your mind to.

Leading organisations trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, which comes from working closely with them and building long-lasting relationships. The IT Business Relationship Manager (BRM) acts as the strategic interface between IT and the business, ensuring technology capabilities align with organisational strategic priorities and identify measurable value. This role is responsible for acting as the primary link between IT and the business, developing strong relationships with key stakeholders and ensuring technology services are closely aligned to business priorities, strategies and challenges.

It involves identifying opportunities where technology can add value, managing demand across assigned business areas, and working with stakeholders to shape business cases by assessing benefits, costs and risks. The role also translates business requirements into high-level technology initiatives, supports the development of IT roadmaps, and works closely with delivery, architecture, operational teams and third-party suppliers to achieve successful outcomes.

In addition, it promotes effective governance, monitors service performance and stakeholder satisfaction, and drives continuous improvement, innovation and digital transformation while ensuring risks, dependencies and compliance requirements are appropriately managed. This role reports to the IT BRM Senior Manager and sits under the Head of IT Strategy and Business Engagement.

You’ll be someone with:

  • Proven experience working in IT, business analysis, service delivery or related disciplines.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management, business relationship management or IT partnership roles.
  • Demonstrable experience in aligning technology initiatives with business strategy and objectives.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and executive leadership teams.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management, project delivery and change management principles.
  • Experience in developing business cases and evaluating technology investment opportunities.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Knowledge of enterprise technologies and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Broad understanding of current technology trends, supplier capabilities and industry developments.
  • Knowledge of IT governance frameworks and service management practices is desirable.
  • Professional qualifications such as ITIL, BRMP or project management certifications are advantageous.

How to prepare for a job interview at BDO UK

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
