The Data Governance Analyst role is part of the Data Office function and reports to the Data Governance Manager. This is a critical position to deliver on our vision, that ‘Everyone at BDO is empowered with data’. You will be part of a small Data Governance team to shape and implement a data governance framework that supports efficient, compliant, and ethical data processing. In this role you’ll work closely with the Data Office and the wider business to ensure the successful delivery and implementation of data governance initiatives across BDO, including data quality and understanding, data sourcing, and access. You will develop data knowledge management, including data modelling and cataloguing documentation, with the business data glossary at its core. You will also drive continuous data improvement at BDO by identifying and reporting any data risks found through data quality analysis and gaining consensus for change within the BDO system landscape.

You’ll be someone with:

  • Proven experience working as Business Analyst, Data Modelling, Data Governance Analyst, and Data Management roles.
  • Hands-on experience in preparing comprehensive documentation tailored for diverse stakeholders across business and technology sectors.
  • Exceptional ability to articulate complex data concepts through standardized data documentation, ensuring clarity and understanding for all audiences.
  • Exceptional policy and standard writing expertise, with the ability to generate user-friendly PowerPoint presentations and other guides to deliver targeted messaging.
  • Experience with Enterprise Risk framework and operating risk and issue logs.
  • Experience in Data Governance and Data Modeling technology configuration and adoption for data cataloguing and business data glossary management (desirable Data.World, LeanIX, Purview, ER/Studio, Erwin or any other equivalent).

  • Working knowledge of GDPR and similar regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to help colleagues and business stakeholders understand data governance initiatives and the impact of poor data on day-to-day business.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset with a logical thought process for identifying root causes to lead data improvement initiatives to successful and measurable outcomes.
  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for data definitions and cataloguing.
  • Strong project management skills to plan, monitor, and report progress of data governance projects and initiatives.
  • A familiarity with data governance tools and technologies, including data lineage, metadata management, and data quality solutions.
