We work with companies that are Britain’s economic engine – ambitious, entrepreneurially‑spirited and high‑growth businesses that fuel the economy – and directly advise the owners and management teams that lead them.

Our Tax team thrives on keeping busy. Friendly, driven and diverse, they service our clients across the country and around the world. By providing expertise in many different specialist areas of tax, they collaborate across BDO to deliver wider business solutions. From meeting clients’ evolving business needs to managing changes to legislation, there are always fresh challenges to face in the Tax team.

We are seeking an experienced Manager to join our Tax Advisory team, supporting an Advisory Director and Partners. This is a key role within the team, acting as a bridge between senior leadership and junior staff, with responsibility for delivering high‑quality advisory work, managing a small portfolio of clients, and developing the wider team. The role is predominantly advisory‑focused, with significant involvement in corporate tax transactions and complex structuring projects. In addition, you will oversee a small portfolio of compliance work, ensuring delivery is efficient, accurate, and aligned with client needs.

You will work with a diverse client base ranging from large corporates to owner‑managed businesses (OMBs), advising on M&A, reorganisations, MBOs, Employee Ownership Trusts (EoTs), and international expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver high‑quality corporate tax advisory services, including:
    • M&A transactions (buy‑side and sell‑side)
    • Reorganisations, MBOs, and Employee Ownership Trusts (EoTs)
    • International expansion and structuring
    • Tax due diligence and structuring advice
  • Manage and review complex advisory projects, ensuring commercially focused, technically robust outcomes
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong and trusted relationships
  • Anticipate client needs and proactively identify opportunities to add value
Compliance & Portfolio Management
  • Manage a small portfolio of clients, including oversight of corporate tax compliance
  • Review compliance work prepared by junior team members, ensuring quality and timeliness
  • Maintain strong client relationships across the portfolio, acting as a trusted adviser
  • Ensure compliance processes are delivered efficiently and aligned to wider advisory opportunities
Project & Team Leadership
  • Lead complex projects, coordinating input from specialists, including international teams where required
  • Demonstrate strong project management across multiple concurrent assignments
  • Act as a key mentor and coach to junior team members
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to develop team capability
  • Serve as a key link between junior team members and senior leadership
Business Development
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities from existing and prospective clients
  • Support Partners and Directors in preparing proposals and winning new work
  • Build and maintain a strong internal and external network
  • Actively contribute to cross‑selling initiatives across service lines
  • Keep Partners informed of potential opportunities and market developments
Key Skills & Experience
  • Strong corporate tax advisory experience, with a focus on transactions and restructurings
  • Proven experience in M&A tax, due diligence, and structuring
  • Experience managing both advisory assignments and compliance portfolios
  • Exposure to a wide range of clients, including large corporates and OMBs
  • Some personal tax experience is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent client‑facing and relationship management skills
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to deliver practical, actionable advice
  • Demonstrable project management capability across complex assignments
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing junior staff
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and geographies
Qualifications
  • CTA and/or ACA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Degree educated (or equivalent experience)
