The Expatriate tax team is part of our Global Employer Services offering, which includes Employment Tax, Share Plans and Incentives and Strategic Reward Advisory. In this role you will work with corporate clients and internationally mobile employees and remote workers across the UK and internationally. You will collaborate with multiple business lines and BDO’s global teams to deliver tax solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide tax compliance and advisory services to a wide range of clients.
- Manage a portfolio of clients in conjunction with the Manager/Senior Manager including control of billings and identification of opportunities to improve recoveries and cash collection.
- Pay attention to self‑development and continuing professional education with a view to progressing within the practice.
- Develop professional relationships with clients and within the Firm and adapt the approach for the relevant audience.
- Understand potential risks to the Firm in relation to the Firm’s quality control procedures and raise to the appropriate person.
- Get involved in special assignments on an ad hoc basis.
- Guide and supervise less experienced colleagues.
- Support, train, mentor and advise others, including more junior staff, in own area as well as in other teams in the firm.
- Challenge current practice – drive improvements and champion change.
- Take personal responsibility for own decisions and actions.
Requirements
- An in depth, up to date, knowledge of taxation with specialist knowledge and the ability to deal with complex tax issues.
- Project and staff management experience.
- Ability to manage a substantial client portfolio profitably while actively seeking opportunities for developing new clients and for selling new services to existing clients.
- Experience dealing with client senior management.
- Educated to degree level and/or CTA and/or ACA qualified or equivalent.
- Demonstrable post‑qualified experience.
- Competency at a tax assistant level, including sufficient knowledge of tax returns, associated computations and preparing advice to clients.
- Experience with tax arrival and departure briefings.
- Expatriate tax technical matters, including UK residency issues, expatriate tax specific concessions and an understanding of how earned income is taxed.
- Excellent written work.
- Strong communication skills.
