BDO Regulatory Solutions are currently recruiting for a Director to join our client, an Insurance firm, based in London. We are offering an initial 3 – 4 month contract starting in March with an excellent day rate, employed via an Umbrella company.
About the role:
Our client is seeking an experienced senior Compliance leader to step in on an interim basis and take full ownership of UK Compliance operations. This role will stabilise, lead, and oversee multiple business units while the organisation completes its permanent hiring process.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished Compliance professional within the insurance sector, confident operating at Director level, and capable of navigating a complex, international stakeholder landscape.
This is a hands-on, senior operational leadership role designed for someone who can quickly establish control, drive clarity, and maintain a high standard of regulatory compliance across the UK business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the UK Compliance function, ensuring operational continuity and stability during the interim period.
- Manage day to day Compliance operations, spanning multiple business units, ensuring alignment with UK regulatory expectations and internal frameworks.
- Act as the senior Compliance representative for UK operations, liaising with Executive Leadership, European Compliance counterparts, and US-based stakeholders.
- Oversee regulatory adherence across all relevant areas of insurance compliance, including conduct, governance, risk management, and reporting.
- Support ongoing regulatory projects, preparing the ground for a smooth transition to the incoming permanent Director.
- Advise senior stakeholders on compliance risks, emerging regulatory changes, and key decision-making implications.
- Ensure clear communication between UK teams and international partners to maintain consistent compliance standards globally.
- Stabilise the function, enhancing structure, processes, or controls as needed during the interim assignment.
About you:
- Extensive background in the insurance industry—general insurance.
- Proven experience operating at senior level (Director or Head of Compliance for a larger organisation).
- Strong leadership capability, with the ability to manage and empower multi-unit Compliance teams.
- Deep knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks, including FCA and PRA requirements.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including experience working with executive teams, European partners, and US/global HQ functions.
- A steady, confident, adaptable leader able to step into a complex environment and immediately provide calm, credible oversight.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the gravitas to represent Compliance at senior forums.
