BDO Christchurch’s Deal Advisory team is seeking a high‑calibre Senior Analyst to join our growing team. This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys building and owning high‑quality financial models, and applying robust analysis across financial due diligence and valuation engagements, while working closely with clients as a trusted point of contact on complex commercial decisions. The opportunity As a Senior Analyst in Deal Advisory, you will work across a broad range of engagements including:
- Financial modelling and forecasting
- Financial due diligence (buy‑side and sell‑side)
- Share and Business valuations
- M&A and transaction support
- Financing and capital raising support
- Ongoing advisory support to clients post‑transaction.
A core focus of this role is financial modelling. You will take responsibility for developing, maintaining, and enhancing client financial models and will be the key point of contact for ongoing support, updates, and scenario analysis as client needs evolve. You’ll work in a team where staff are actively encouraged to challenge thinking, improve tools, and help shape how we deliver quality advisory work. This role is well‑suited to someone looking to progress toward Manager by deepening their technical leadership, client ownership, and coaching capability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, review, and maintain robust, flexible financial models to support transactions, due diligence, valuations, and strategic decision‑making
- Play a key role in financial due diligence engagements, including data analysis, quality of earnings, and identification of key commercial issues
- Act as the primary day‑to‑day contact for clients on financial modelling matter, working closely with Managers and Partners on overall engagement delivery
- Translate complex financial outputs into clear, practical insights for clients and stakeholders
- Support Managers and Partners with analysis, presentations, and client deliverables
- Contribute to continuous improvement of modelling standards, templates, and analytical tools within the Deal Advisory team
- Coach and support junior team members on modelling and analytical best practice.
About you You Will Likely Bring:
- Three or more years’ experience in Corporate Finance, Deal Advisory, Transaction Services, or a related advisory role. Experience in Audit or Business Advisory Services may also be considered.
- CA, CFA, or equivalent qualification (completed or near completion)
- Strong financial modelling capability (proficiency in Excel essential)
- Experience contributing to or leading financial due diligence engagements
- An interest in using data and visualisation tools to enhance insights — experience with Power BI is a strong advantage
- A clear, structured approach to problem solving and analysis and an ability to succinctly explain complex information in report format
- Confidence working directly with clients, communicating and explaining financial outcomes
- The ability to work collaboratively within a close team
- Experience with Modano financial modelling software or similar modelling platforms is highly regarded, but not essential.
