Overview
In this role you help drive growth for Canadian SMEs by underwriting and authorizing well-supported loan proposals.
You will apply strong credit judgment to moderate-to-high complexity files and ensure risk-aligned decisions.

Responsibilities
- Underwrite and authorize comprehensive loan proposals for moderate-to-high complexity files ($350k–$1.5M) using detailed financial analysis and due diligence
- Determine credit terms, pricing, repayment structures, and covenants in line with credit policies
- Review loan documentation and negotiate transaction structures with internal partners to ensure policy alignment
- Support compliance matters and changes during negotiation to ensure risk mitigation and timely decisions
- Provide practical, well-suited client solutions through sound judgment and problem solving
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with business centre colleagues and internal partners to foster collaboration
- Stay current on policy, process, and regulatory changes affecting credit
- Coach and mentor new employees, supporting knowledge sharing within the team and with internal partners
- Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, accounting, or a related field
- CPA or CFA designation considered a strong asset
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in credit analysis, loan adjudication, or related financial services role
- Experience coaching or mentoring teams
- Strong ability to analyze, structure, and assess commercial financing transactions
- Solid understanding of credit risk policies, governance, and procedures
- Knowledge of BDC products, services, policies, and processes or ability to develop this quickly
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence and negotiate with internal partners and clients
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment
- Solid business acumen and understanding of SME realities and dynamics
