The Program Manager is leading complex project & program customer implementations within the EMEA DS business. His main responsibilities are as follows:
- Lead all aspects of the project / program from its launch through successful completion of the handover to Lifecycle Management team; support as a subject matter expert on all implementation related questions during the Sales Phase or for tenders.
- Lead the project / program planning & scheduling of activities and resources request process, as well as the execution of these activities and manage them on a day-to-day basis, according to the established standards & processes within the Project Management Excellence Framework.
- Align and manage all cross-functional activities to deliver the solution on time and on budget per contract while meeting agreed technical, operational, business and customer requirements; set boundaries for risk identification & mitigation, anticipation of potential issues and escalation to relevant stakeholders when required.
- Oversee all preparations & arrangements prior to installation based on technical requirements (facilities & refurbishments, IT connectivity & network); support the development & timely delivery of LIS-interface by coordinating subject matter experts and planning of required activities.
- Lead the cross-functional team of subject matter experts in the execution of specific activities within the project scope: this team is typically composed of 4-6 subject matter experts from applications, informatics & IT, technical service (hardware & software).
- Lead all project-related communication with internal & external stakeholders, incl. accurate and timely reviews and reporting on progress, issues & risks.
- Establish and implement the framework and standards for program and project management for the EMEA DS Business – develop the Project Management Excellence Framework (PMEF, formally known as the BD Way of Project Management): Drive the development, extension & deployment of the Project Mgmt. Playbook (PM Playbook), which serves as the operational framework for project & program management.
- Drive the development, extension & deployment of training programs focused on project & program management – based on the PM Playbook and processes / tools / templates released by the xPMO.
- Drive the deployment of the PMEF beyond the Professional Services team aiming to upscale “project management” capabilities within the local organizations – Sales & Applications, Technical Service.
- Extended Project Management Office (xPMO): create new and maintain existing policies and processes to meet DS Business needs in the most optimal way.
- Create, deploy, and sustain processes for program & project management (e.g. process for resources request & allocation).
- Create, deploy, and sustain tools for program & project management (e.g. SmartSheet for project & program management, resources request & allocation).
- Create, deploy, and sustain templates for program & project management (e.g. risks, issues, actions logs).
- Support the program & project closure process including lessons learned to identify and consolidate good practices.
- Collect feedback from the team to improve the Project Management Excellence Framework based on field. Contribute to the continuous improvement strategy of the Professional Services organization and the DS business unit by leveraging field expertise in project management and customer needs.
About You:
- Project management certification on level PRINCE2 practitioner/PMI – PMP/IPMA level C or D.
- Relevant master’s degree in a technical or scientific field.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience within project management, including experience in a customer‑facing role.
- Experience in a people‑management role is preferable.
- Fluency in English and French is a must. Fluency in another European language is recommended.
- Willingness and ability to travel on a regular basis within the EMEA region (up to 25‑50% depending on the period and number of customer projects / programs).
- Experience within the regulated environment of the medical device or pharmaceutical industry or knowledge of IT systems and architecture, work processes of microbiological laboratories.
- Strong servant leadership skills with the ability to create a safe environment and build a workplace culture where team members are valued.
- Ability to empower team members, while focusing on empathy, listening and commitment to personal growth of others is crucial.
- High personal effectiveness, stress resistance, and ability to work cross‑functionally within the project team and in a complex organization.
