The mission of GIE is to design and construct manufacturing processes that transform product specifications into industrialised solutions. The Modernization Staff Engineer leads or contributes to the modernisation plan for their assigned scope, performing technical evaluations, capability assessments, feasibility analyses, and resource planning to build executable modernization plans aligned with strategic direction. The role works cross-functionally with sites, suppliers, GIE teams, and stakeholders to ensure safe, high‑quality, and high‑performing operations.
You will maintain the modernization plan for assigned equipment families, process areas, or manufacturing sites, ensuring clarity, executability, and alignment with modernization strategy. You will develop and deploy the execution plan with activities, timelines, deliverables, and required resources (internal or external). You will coordinate with suppliers and external partners to integrate applicable solutions and maintain/update modernization plans based on site feedback, data, and leadership guidance. You will manage risk, follow up on actions, and execute modernization projects cross‑functionally to enable site-wide implementation.
Main Responsibilities
- Develops & Executes Equipment/Process Modernisation Strategy: Maintains the modernization plan, conducts technical assessments and feasibility evaluations, develops execution roadmaps, coordinates internal resources, partners with suppliers, tracks progress, analyzes performance data, participates in design reviews, and prepares technical documentation and validation packages.
- Provide Support For Standardization And Document/Leverage Successes: Documents improvements, maintains modernization plan versions, integrates validated improvements and supplier learnings into standardized practices, supports deployment across sites, and contributes to design reviews and root‑cause analyses.
- Provides Targeted Engineering Upskilling Opportunities: Identifies skill gaps, supports the GIE Learning Academy with occasional training, provides technical support, and contributes to knowledge‑sharing activities.
- Leadership & Collaboration Responsibilities: Aligns work with Modernisation Leadership priorities, communicates status and risks, collaborates with site teams and suppliers, supports partnerships, and documents lessons learned.
About You / Qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred). Advanced degree (MS or MBA) is a plus but not required.
- Up to 8 years of experience in engineering, production, or maintenance within Medical Device or other highly regulated industries.
- Exposure to modernization projects, process improvement, and equipment integration.
- Familiarity with Lean/6 Sigma tools, PFMEA, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and SPC (Green Belt preferred).
- Strong technical problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively across functions.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑site initiatives.
Travel Requirements: Up to 30%
Salary range: £60,000 – £70,000 + Bonus
