Facilities Technician at BD

Overview

As the Facilities Technician, onsite at BD Plymouth, you will ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times with regard to critical building systems. Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive and breakdown works to all mechanical and electrical systems within the site. Possess the ability to demonstrate knowledge of HV and LV electrical services, control panels, AHUs, pumps and motors, including fault finding with the help of the BMS and the utilisation of current alarm data.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure reactive tasks throughout the building are completed and proactively highlight areas for improvement.
  • Ensure suitable spares are available for maintenance and reactive works; provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial works and site communications where necessary.
  • Provide a Safe and Healthy working environment, including the wearing of relevant PPE.
  • Keep all plant rooms under your responsibility locked and tidy.
  • Supervise and monitor subcontractors on site during maintenance.
  • Arrange holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible with working patterns as needed.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate.
  • Perform tasks with appropriate Health & Safety awareness and implementation.
  • Operate a Permit to Work System in accordance with BD Health & Safety procedures.
  • Be flexible with working times towards the end of the day in the event of an emergency or if a critical alarm appears on the BMS.
  • Proficient with computers to communicate via email and quote/order parts.

About You

  • Completed an apprenticeship and hold a Level 3 technical and vocational qualification or Level 3 Diploma in a relevant subject.
  • Knowledge of Electrical systems, BMS, HVAC, Boilers, Boiler Control Systems and emergency lighting systems.
  • Mechanical, electrical and other utility systems understanding.
  • Up to 2 years electrical facilities experience, with high flexibility and initiative.
  • Experience in facility equipment fault finding and maintenance activities.
  • Experience in building services (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Systems, Building Fabric, etc).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and self-motivated.
  • Excellent report writing and PC literacy.
  • Ability to assess urgency and impact (safety-critical vs. routine maintenance).
  • Completed City & Guilds 2391, 2394 and 2395 or BS 7671 – 18th Edition is a distinct advantage.

Salary range: Β£34,000 – Β£38,000 per year.
