Permanent, full time | Dagenham | Hybrid working available where business needs allow.

Most company secretarial roles are one of two things: a small piece of a big plc team, or governance bolted onto someone's day job. This is neither.

BD Group was created by the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham to deliver positive economic, environmental and social change. We provide facilities and property services across London and the Southeast, with a strong focus on supporting local communities. We're wholly owned by the borough but run as an autonomous business with private sector governance, under an independent Non-Executive Chair and Board which makes the governance genuinely interesting, and makes this role visible.

You'd work directly with the Board, senior leaders and external advisers, keeping the organisation on the right side of its legal and regulatory obligations.

The job

  • The statutory core: confirmation statements and other filings, statutory registers and company records, notifying Companies House of relevant changes, and compliance with the Companies Act 2006.
  • The Board side: coordinating Board, shareholder and Annual General Meetings, preparing agendas, papers, minutes and action logs, and acting as the point of contact for shareholders and governance correspondence.
  • Alongside that you'll liaise with auditors, accountants and legal advisers, safeguard key corporate documents, monitor changes in legislation and advise on what they mean for us.

What you'll need

  • A degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Experience undertaking company secretarial and governance responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Companies House requirements and statutory compliance obligations.
  • Experience maintaining corporate records and statutory registers.
  • Experience supporting Board and shareholder meetings, including minute taking.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • The judgement to handle confidential information with discretion.

Also useful:

  • A professional qualification in company secretarial practice, governance, law or accounting.
  • Experience in a group company structure.
  • Experience liaising with auditors, legal advisers, regulators and shareholders.
  • Knowledge of wider compliance and corporate administration.

What you get

  • Heart Hub rewards, perks and benefits platform.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Group life assurance.
  • Pension scheme.
  • 26+ days annual leave.
  • Family-friendly policies supporting work-life balance.
  • Health and wellbeing support, including Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Career development and training opportunities.
  • Free on-site parking at our head office.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
