More about the Policy and Research Manager role in London

The Policy and Research Manager provides the evidence base behind BCS's policy and public affairs work, turning research, data and analysis into positions and content that support the organisation's efforts to influence decision-makers on issues affecting the tech profession.

Working closely with the Director of Policy and Public Affairs, the role leads on commissioning and delivering research, and on planning and running policy roundtables and events that keep BCS's thinking connected to developments in Westminster, Whitehall and the wider policy landscape.

The postholder is expected to work independently on complex material, translating findings into reports, briefings and other content that a range of audiences, from the public to policymakers and academics, can use.

Key responsibilities:

Research

• Commission, supervise and undertake large scale quantitative, qualitative and desk-based research on key issues related to the tech profession.
• Analyse research outcomes and prepare reports, briefings, articles and other policy content in a form that can be used to influence decision-making and external policy debates.
• Work with the team to plan, develop and publish a series of high quality, eye catching and authoritative research reports.
• Monitor and analyse various datasets from across to inform our influencing efforts.
• Manage individual research activities, ensuring they are delivered on time and to budget.
• Build effective working relationships with key contacts at policy research and survey partners to ensure timely and effective completion of our workstreams.

Policy

• Plan, develop and deliver a programme of effective policy roundtables and events to support our influence efforts and inform our policy work.
• Monitor and analyse relevant evidence, trends, and national policy developments and datasets to identify issues for the tech profession.
• Working with the Director of Policy & Public Affairs, lead on key strategic projects undertaken by the team.
• Working across the organisation, provide advice, guidance and support to others in developing, coordinating and promoting our influencing objectives.
• Providing clear interpretation and communication of complex findings, from own research and analysis or that of others, to a wide range of audiences including the public, policy makers, researchers and academics.
• Presenting to external audiences at various events including roundtables and seminars, and leading events with external stakeholders.
