To enhance our ability to develop an optimal programme portfolio for delivery, we are looking for a talented Project Commercial Manager. As we move into this exciting and challenging period for the Water industry, our commercial and cost management processes and practices must remain industry-leading to ensure we not only deliver but outperform against our objectives and customer expectations.
What you will be doing as our new Project Commercial Manager?
You will be accountable for the commercial and cost management of a project or programme of projects from inception to close out reporting directly to an Integrated Projects Leader (IPL) ensuring that maximum efficiencies are obtained and full compliance with all Alliance and Anglian Water governance procedures is achieved. Providing a commercial challenge to the IPL and team on all project matters.
Responsibilities
- Management of Commercials: Ensuring robust estimates are provided that are aligned to scope. Managing and supporting the commercial and procurement strategies with the Senior Buyers to ensure the tender processes are followed correctly. Ensuring subcontracts are properly prepared and reflect the agreed scope and are properly managed by contract.
- Robust Cost Management: Providing accurate live forecasting considering the project programme and reporting following the respective WBS/CBS. Ensuring actual costs are properly monitored and assessed against the baseline estimate and challenging any variance to the plans. Providing reports on actual costs versus estimates and identifying underlying reasons for any variance and resolution.
- Contract Management: Ensuring the Alliance contract is properly administered. Overseeing the timely issue of early warnings and advising the IPL on all matters related to compliance. Ensuring that proper records are kept so that all financial information for audits and cost assurance is readily available. Ensuring final accounts are prepared timely and accurately.
- Project And Programme Risk: Ensuring that mitigation plans are in place and implemented. Proactive management of opportunities including identifying and implementing plans to realise. Ensuring that all identified efficiencies are monitored as to progress and report to the IPL any variances to the plan. Report any withheld, disputed or disallowed costs to the IPL.
- Team Leadership: Leading and managing a small team. Mentoring and developing the team individuals.
A little bit about your skills, experience, and behaviours…
To be considered for this role, ideally, you’ll be educated to a degree level and hold either RICS/CIOB/CICES certification. You’ll have demonstrable experience in managing complex projects ranging in size up to multi-million pounds projects. You’ll have a robust nature, be able to manage change and feel comfortable with challenging decisions. Experience in working with the NEC suite of contracts, coupled with negotiating and estimating and outstanding stakeholder management skills will make you stand out from the crowd!
With a high level of integrity and fairness, you’ll act as the commercial conscience of the IPL. You’ll champion collaboration and open communication and take ownership, leading with a strong commercial focus. Working under pressure with a positive forward-thinking mentality is second nature to you as is you leading and supporting your team with a supportive empathetic approach, using your stakeholder management skills to build strong personal working relationships.
