From 1 December 2025, our updated Pay and Reward package will take effect, introducing a new approach to recognising and rewarding roles across the Council. As part of this change, the salary for this role will be adjusted to a pay range of £30,024-£33,143 (pro‑rata for part time). About the Role

The BCP (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole) Council’s Highway Delivery Team are looking for Skilled Highway Operatives to join us in the delivery of works including routine maintenance, construction schemes, traffic management, winter service provision and much more. Do you have experience in the following types of highway work and are committed to improving the public highway for our residents and visitors?

  • Experience in highways maintenance – patching, remedial repairs.
  • Experience in highways construction/resurfacing – small and major highway improvement schemes to the network.
  • Experience in the deployment of traffic management on rural and urban roads, including high‑speed networks.
  • Class C1 or Class C driver’s licence.
  • Ability to remain calm and polite when engaging with members of the public.

Compensation and Benefits

Our Highway Maintenance Operative roles within BCP Council are currently subject to receipt of a Labour Market Supplement of £100 per month subject to the outcome of BCP Council’s Pay & Reward review. BCP Council is implementing a new Pay & Reward structure to harmonise terms and conditions, including a single pay structure that all existing and future employees will move to. These changes are scheduled to be implemented 2024 and all colleagues joining us will be included. This role is subject to a full pre‑employment medical questionnaire being completed by successful applicants.
