BCP Council is committed to and has made significant investment in building up its Community Safety capacity to support the BCP Community Safety Partnership with an ambitious strategy and action plan to realise our vision 'to make Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole a safer and healthier place where communities and businesses thrive and where residents and visitors feel safe and welcomed'. We are recruiting for a Community Safety Officer to support the Council's Community Safety with a particular focus on Prevent and Protect.
The role will focus on the delivery of the Prevent strategy and plans through participation within multi‑agency groups and meetings, engagement with Council services, and regional, national and local agencies. It will also assist and support the training element of the strategy and agreed Prevent training framework. The role undertakes a range of Community Safety projects, supports current local initiatives and is a core contributor to new and developing initiatives working closely with partners such as Dorset Police.
Responsibilities- Engage with a wide range of people and services, working as part of a fast‑paced team with varied workstreams while maintaining relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Arrange meetings, take minutes and actions, deliver presentations and independently prioritise workload.
- Support the Community Safety Manager and Community Safety Team Leader across a range of work, with a main focus on preventing violent extremism, exploitation and other emerging issues.
- Assist and support with the training element of the Prevent strategy and agreed Prevent training framework.
- Degree educated or equivalent.
- Minimum three years of relevant experience in the subject matters mentioned, including Prevent and Protect.
- Great interpersonal skills, flexible and familiar with the Microsoft suite including MS Teams, Excel and Outlook.
Starting salary for this role is £34,434 (pro rata for part‑time colleagues). The role is generally hybrid based, with flexible hours, and may require working from the BCP Civic Centre or other locations within the Council area on occasions.
