Role Purpose

To provide engaging training sessions to customers of all ages, ensuring safety at all times within a fun environment, to improve people’s skills, abilities and general health within a specific sporting discipline or fitness programme.

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver exciting, structured coaching sessions to encourage the development of participants.
  • Provide a safe environment, taking all reasonable precautions including health and safety checks, to ensure the safety of all participants during the session.
  • Ensure all equipment is fit for use and used correctly by all the participants to make sure the sessions are safe for all participants.
  • Monitor and assess ability and progress in line with the sport’s governing body to support the participants’ improvement. This includes informing parents/guardians of pupil development where applicable.
  • Undertake relevant administrative duties, such as taking attendance registers and maintaining participant records, to support the smooth-running of lessons and coaching sessions.
  • Provide support and guidance to more junior coaching roles, so that they can help run sessions effectively.
  • Inform the customer service team of pupil movements/progressions between classes, where applicable, to keep waiting lists to a minimum.
  • Communicate with any relevant stakeholders/partners/professionals, to maintain positive referral routes and interest into the Council’s exercise and fitness programmes.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant Level 2 qualification in the sport discipline.
  • Experience of coaching adults and children.
  • Experience of designing sessions for specific groups.
  • Knowledge of health and safety as it relates to the specific sport/activity.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding protocols.
  • Ability to instruct and communicate in a clear and positive manner, and to provide support and guidance and cause understanding in others.
  • Ability to plan and co-ordinate training sessions.
