Job Overview
Support the Business Development Manager with the commissioning and governance of high-quality, sustainable, value for money leisure and recreation facilities and associated services.
Main Responsibilities
- Support compliance of leisure contracts and seek to resolve barriers to collaboration by communicating openly and challenging unhelpful behaviour.
- Support data collation of leisure performance utilising local and national data to benchmark progression by building supportive, positive and trusting relationships with partners.
- Work with colleagues and external stakeholders using effective interpersonal skills to identify opportunities for greater partnership working and to develop solutions to a range of problems when required.
- Support the Council’s Financial Plan for the Council ensuring that cost-effective approaches and decisions are made, budgets are well monitored and managed and that commercial opportunities and approaches are delivered where appropriate.
- Have a good knowledge of work practices, processes and procedures when working with regional stakeholders and national governing bodies to support the implementation of best practice ensuring compliance of BCP Council and leisure contractors.
- Encourage and listen to new ideas from everyone when supporting sustainability initiatives across the leisure facilities in line with BCP’s strategic response to the climate crisis and be positive about change.
- Work with wider Council teams to ensure development and opportunities take into account the wider needs of the Council and BCP residents and visitors.
- Support marketing and social media plans for leisure development.
- Flexible approach to case work, understanding different customer needs when supporting accessibility initiatives ensuring equality and diversity policy is adhered to.
Specific Qualifications And Experience
- NVQ 3 or Diploma in a relevant subject or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and experience of working in a complex service within a large organisation.
- Experience of data management and collation.
- Demonstrable professional competence in relation to supporting leisure development initiatives.
- Experience of supporting projects which have a wide-ranging impact and reputational risk for the council.
- Understanding of the local and national context for leisure.
- Working in partnership with national governing bodies and regional partners.

Job Requirements
- Must be able to travel, using public or other forms of transport where viable, or by holding a valid UK driving licence with access to own or pool car.
- Regular travel across various leisure/recreation sites required.
- Attending local and national events and workshops.
- Good knowledge of ICT including Excel, Word, Outlook and other programmes relevant to the role.
- Plan and organise own workload in an environment of change where there are competing demands.
- Applicants must undertake a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
