Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct food hygiene inspections as part of our food inspections programme.
  • Investigate complaints related to food safety, food hygiene, foodborne illness, workplace health and safety, and accidents.
  • Work closely with an experienced team of officers to deliver an excellent regulatory service, which may include work across other disciplines such as port health, commercial nuisance and planning to meet our service objectives.
  • Participate in a wide range of projects covering food hygiene, health and safety, infectious diseases, port health work and commercial nuisance, including some out‑of‑hours and/or on‑call working.

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in Environmental Health.
  • Completed Environmental Health Practitioner Portfolio or equivalent.
  • Advanced and in‑depth knowledge of relevant Environmental Health legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of inspection, investigation and testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of PACE and RIPA legislation.
  • Experience of conducting investigations and inspections in the relevant regulatory function and specialism.
  • Experience of conducting interviews under caution and undertaking complex enforcement activity.
  • Ability to plan and organise time effectively over several cases and investigations.
  • Ability to communicate and persuade, using evidence and professional expertise to build a persuasive and well‑reasoned case.
  • Ability to provide professional advice and translate complex technical information for a range of audiences.
  • Thorough knowledge or previous experience in food safety, health and safety, and infectious disease control.
  • Approachable manner with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to independently prioritise workload.
