Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HCPC‑registered Children’s Occupational Therapist to join our Children’s Occupational Therapy Team within the Children’s Social Care division. The position is a permanent 22.5‑hour part‑time role, to be worked over three days a week, based in the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Council areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete robust, holistic assessments focusing on a child’s function and occupational needs within their home environment.
- Assess, recommend and prescribe equipment to improve function and prevent deterioration of physical skills (e.g., postural seating systems, bathing and toileting equipment).
- Support children, young people and their families/carers through advice, specialist equipment provision, risk assessments and assistance with minor and major adaptations to properties.
- Progress OT recommendations following Disabled Facilities Grant legislation, working closely with the grants team to complete adaptations within the child’s home.
- Conduct moving and handling risk assessments and create bespoke moving and handling care plans for children with complex physical disabilities and health needs.
- Work in partnership with Health, Education and Social Care colleagues, completing joint assessments where appropriate and contributing to EHCP plans.
- Promote independence of the child and reduce risks associated with the care of a child or young person with disabilities.
- Undertake temporarily, where required, more responsible duties as determined by the Children’s Occupational Therapy Team Manager.
- Participate in staff training within the council and across teams to share good practice.
- Take responsibility for clinical supervision of Occupational Therapy students where appropriate.
- Use computerised systems (Word, Excel, Mosaic) and ensure case recording and documentation complies with HCPC guidance.
- Complete Continuing Professional Development as per HCPC and Royal College of Occupational Therapists guidance.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered with the HCPC as an Occupational Therapist (or equivalent).
- Significant experience working with children with disabilities and complex health needs.
- Knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grant legislation and experience of working within this framework.
- Ability to conduct moving and handling risk assessments and create care plans.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel and Mosaic.
- Strong safeguarding awareness and experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driving licence with business use insurance.
- Right to work in the UK; no visa sponsorship available.
