An experienced Private Client Solicitor or Fee Earner is sought to join a well-established and highly regarded law firm in their Newcastle office. Reporting directly to the Head of Department, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering comprehensive and accurate legal advice to both existing and new clients. The role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base while managing an independent caseload across a broad range of private client matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing high-quality legal advice and guidance on private client matters including Wills, estate administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney, trusts, estate planning, tax planning, and asset protection.
- Drafting a wide range of legal documentation including Wills, trusts, and LPAs.
- Managing a varied caseload efficiently while maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and confidential case files in accordance with data protection regulations and firm procedures.
- Advising clients throughout probate and estate administration processes, including the preparation of associated documentation such as Legal Statements, HMRC forms, Deeds of Variation, assignments, asset transfer forms, and R185 forms.
- Administering trusts created during lifetime and on death, including HMRC compliance and liaison with trustees, accountants, and investment advisers.
- Supervising and supporting junior team members where appropriate.
- Participating in marketing and business development initiatives to raise the profile of the individual, the team, and the wider firm.
- Developing and maintaining a network of introducers and professional contacts.
- Ensuring compliance with file management procedures, billing requirements, and time recording processes.
- Maintaining up-to-date legal knowledge through ongoing professional development and engagement with supervision and training.
Skills and Experience Required
- Qualified Solicitor or experienced Fee Earner with strong experience in Private Client law, ideally with a minimum of 3 years PQE.
- Demonstrable expertise in Wills, probate, trusts, estate planning, tax planning, and asset protection.
- Experience advising rural or farming clients on succession planning would be advantageous.
- STEP qualification or working towards STEP accreditation would be desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance client demands, caseload management, and non-fee earning responsibilities.
- Proven ability to provide excellent client service and achieve positive outcomes.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Strong IT skills and confidence using case management systems.
- A proactive and enthusiastic approach to business development and networking.
