Commercial IT Lawyer | London

A highly regarded UK commercial law firm is seeking a Commercial IT Lawyer to join its expanding Commercial IT/IP team, in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded technology lawyer to take on significant responsibility, work alongside leading practitioners and build their career within a progressive, supportive and growing team.

The Commercial IT/IP team advises a broad range of high-profile public and private sector clients on complex commercial, technology and IT matters.

The work includes IT contracts, technology licensing, Saa S, artificial intelligence, outsourcing, digital transformation and complex technology transactions.

You will work with an impressive client base that includes Central Government departments, executive agencies, NHS organisations, local authorities, housing associations and private sector businesses, particularly within the independent health sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on a broad range of commercial, IT and technology transactions.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating sophisticated commercial and technology agreements.
  • Advising on software and technology licensing, Saa S arrangements and complex IT transactions.
  • Supporting clients on business process outsourcing and major digital transformation projects.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on a significant, mission-critical outsourcing programme expected to run for the next 2-3 years.
  • Taking lead responsibility for a range of interesting and varied projects, working closely with partners and lawyers across the wider firm.
  • Providing practical and commercially focused advice that reflects clients' operational requirements and relevant regulatory considerations.
  • Supervising and supporting junior lawyers on a range of commercial agreements.
  • Developing trusted relationships with clients and contributing to the continued growth of the Commercial IT/IP practice.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across different legal disciplines to deliver coordinated, high-quality advice.

There will also be opportunities to develop experience in data protection, cyber security and intellectual property, including IP assignment and licensing, co-existence arrangements, and joint development and commercialisation agreements.

Experience in these areas would be advantageous, but is not essential for the right candidate.

  • Significant experience drafting and negotiating commercial and IT contracts.
  • Experience supporting or leading large-scale technology transformation projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial and IT transactional matters.
  • Experience providing ongoing contract management and commercial legal support.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or supporting junior lawyers.
  • Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
  • A strong commercial approach and the ability to provide clear, practical and pragmatic legal advice.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and complex projects effectively.
  • A proactive, curious and self-motivated approach, with a genuine interest in technology and emerging areas such as AI.
  • The confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple legal disciplines.
  • An appetite for contributing to business development and helping to grow a legal practice.

Experience advising public sector clients and familiarity with public sector contracting templates would be an advantage.
