COMPLIANCE OFFICER - NEWCASTLE

An award winning law firm in Newcastle is looking for a Compliance Officer to join its team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Executing the end-to-end due diligence process for clients, in accordance with AML and identification guidance, policies and procedures.
  • Obtaining all required identification in line with strict guidance, ensuring that internal and external procedures and requirements are fully met.
  • Playing a key role in enhancing client service and operational efficiencies, while supporting the firm's commitment to building long-term client relationships.
  • Proactively monitoring client onboarding progress.
  • Liaising with the Head of Risk and Compliance on matters relating to client identification and escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Liaising with partners, solicitors and support teams to provide progress updates as required.
  • Providing compliance approval, once client due diligence has been completed, for all relevant entities and matters within the practice management system in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring and managing emails received in the Compliance mailbox.
  • Ensuring that internal procedures are consistently applied and followed.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely data entry within the relevant practice management system.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Managing ongoing monitoring alerts for clients and reporting any concerns to the Head of Risk and Compliance.
  • Complying with and upholding the firm's policies and procedures, including those relating to health and safety, IT, security, email, anti-virus requirements, equality and fair treatment.
  • Supporting other reasonable tasks and projects as required within the office environment, in agreement with the Head of Risk and Compliance.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a regulated environment, preferably within the legal sector.

You will also ideally have:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence in using case management or practice management systems.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • A strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality, compliance and accuracy.
  • The drive and commitment to deliver high-quality work within a regulated environment.
