I'm currently working on an opportunity with a leading global engineering, construction and infrastructure business looking to add an Attorney to its Ethics & Compliance team in Houston.
This would suit a Texas-admitted attorney with experience across investigations, ethics and compliance, employment law, regulatory matters or corporate legal work, ideally with exposure to internal investigations and sensitive employee-related matters.
Working closely with the Ethics & Compliance leadership team, the role will support internal investigations, advise on ethics and compliance matters, and contribute to the development and implementation of policies, training and wider compliance initiatives across a sophisticated international business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting and conducting internal investigations into potential breaches of company policies, standards, laws and regulations.
- Reviewing and analysing documents, case information and witness testimony to establish facts and support investigation findings.
- Assessing ethics and compliance issues, identifying potential legal and business risks, and recommending appropriate courses of action.
- Supporting Conflict of Interest reviews and determinations.
- Advising on ethics and compliance policies, procedures and internal standards.
- Preparing investigation reports, analysing case trends and reporting key findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting the development and delivery of ethics and compliance training and employee communications.
- Providing guidance to employees and management on ethics, compliance and related legal matters.
- Supporting internal and external audits and contributing to the ongoing development of compliance programmes.
- Working collaboratively with Legal, HR, Employee Relations and other internal teams to address issues and mitigate risk.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A JD and an active licence to practise law in Texas.
- Relevant experience as an Attorney within a law firm or in-house legal department, ideally with exposure to ethics and compliance, internal investigations, Employment law or regulatory matters.
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential investigations, assessing evidence and reaching well-reasoned conclusions.
- Strong legal research, analytical, drafting and communication skills.
- The ability to exercise sound judgement, discretion and independence when dealing with complex or sensitive issues.
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders at different levels of the business and advising on potentially challenging matters.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
- Spanish language skills would be advantageous.
- A valid passport and willingness to travel as required.
