The Business
This organisation is one of the UK's established names in onshore wind. Originally an early adopter in renewable energy, it has evolved into a sophisticated developer, owner and operator of wind farm assets. Backed by one of the world's largest clean energy investment funds, the business is in an exciting phase of growth, with turnover increasing rapidly and a clear long‑term investment horizon.
The Legal Team
You will be joining a small, high‑calibre in‑house legal team led by an experienced General Counsel. The team works closely with the business, external advisers and investment stakeholders, and has a strong reputation for being pragmatic, commercial and collaborative. Hybrid working is well established (typically three days in the office), and while the work is serious and high‑value, the culture is refreshingly balanced.
The Role
This is a broad, project‑focused in‑house role with a strong emphasis on major infrastructure development. While experience in construction or projects will be highly attractive, the role is intentionally generalist and offers an excellent platform for a lawyer looking to deepen their commercial and in‑house skillset.
- Major Project Work: Supporting large‑scale, project‑financed wind farm developments from early land arrangements through to construction and operation.
- Governance & General Commercial: Supporting corporate governance, internal stakeholders and wider commercial matters as the business continues to grow and evolve.
- Construction & Procurement: Advising on EPC and Balance of Plant contracts, FIDIC or JCT agreements, procurement processes, NDAs and supplier arrangements, working closely with technical and procurement teams.
- Disputes Management: Guiding the business through occasional disputes that arise from increased project volume, managing external counsel and helping resolve issues pragmatically.
The Ideal Candidate
- UK‑qualified solicitor (or equivalent)
- Around 5 years' PQE (flexible)
- Background in construction, projects, energy or infrastructure is desirable
- Experience with complex contracts and comfort working alongside external advisers
- Prior in‑house experience helpful but not essential - this is a great move for someone looking to transition from private practice
- Commercial, collaborative and keen to be embedded in the business
Why This Role?
This is a rare opportunity to join a thriving renewable energy business at a pivotal stage of its growth, with exposure to genuinely high‑quality work, supportive leadership and a positive, professional culture. It offers the chance to move in‑house without sacrificing technical challenge, while gaining broader commercial exposure and long‑term career development.
