We're working on behalf of a well-established national organisation to recruit an experienced Commercial Counsel / Data Privacy Officer to join its collaborative in-house legal team.
This is a broad and varied role offering the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, providing commercially focused legal advice while leading on data protection, privacy and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Head of Legal, you'll act as the organisation's Data Protection Officer (DPO), taking the lead on all matters relating to UK GDPR and privacy compliance across the organisation and its group entities.
You'll manage a small team responsible for delivering high-quality legal and compliance advice, with a particular focus on data protection, governance and regulatory matters. Alongside your specialist remit, you'll also advise on a wide range of commercial legal issues, helping the business manage risk while supporting strategic and operational objectives.
About You
You'll be a qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate and significant post-qualification experience, gained either in-house or in private practice.
- Strong experience advising on commercial contracts and procurement matters.
- Extensive knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR and wider data privacy legislation.
- The ability to provide commercially pragmatic legal advice and communicate complex issues clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring a small legal or compliance team, or the ambition to step into a people management role.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence at all levels of an organisation.
