We are therefore now seeking a like-minded, self-starting Hydrogeologist to complement and enhance our existing consultancy offering. This vacancy is open to all MSc Hydrogeology graduates regardless of level of experience. For the right applicant, all existing and prospective grades may be considered, from 2026 graduate to Principal level, benefits and seniority being tailored to suit.
Being supported by our existing Hydrogeologists and Hydrometric Technicians, the successful candidate will engage directly with our client base, principally within the aggregates sector, offering a variety of water management consultancy services of hydrogeological focus, ranging through operational support, Environmental Impact Assessment, Flood Risk Assessment, Environmental Permitting, Abstraction Licensing, pump testing, environmental monitoring and beyond.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, offering a mix of home working and regular (typically weekly) attendance at our Wolverhampton office. The role will require extensive travel throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, and inherently requires varied degrees of field/site works. As a result, the role can include provision of a company car, together with access to company-owned 4x4 vehicles.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to start their career in hydrogeological consultancy, or for an established professional looking to break out, tread new ground, and seize a role that values, rewards and delivers the same pioneering attitude, technical proficiency and outdoors focus that drew many of us to the profession in the first place.
Our Company: BCL are an experienced independent hydrological and hydrogeological consultancy principally serving the aggregates and construction industries, though also offering our services to a wider client base. We help our clients overcome operational obstacles relating to water management and aid them in navigating related regulatory constraints, principally relating to planning, permitting, licensing and associated consents. Our purpose is to guide sustainable and efficacious water management practices, this to the benefit of our clients and the wider environment, by providing pragmatic and cost-effective solutions to the inevitable conflicts that arise between societal and environmental needs.
Our People: At the desk or in the field, it is the innovative and technically minded nature of our staff, their experience, dedication and solution-focused attitude, that allows us to meet the needs of our clients. We see our people as our greatest asset, and believe in enabling, empowering and supporting them towards reaching their full potential, to the benefit of the company and their individual careers. We do this not just through training, support and regular social events, but by offering tailored progression, encouraging innovation and providing a fair, open and honest working environment. We inclusively seek like-minded individuals, who share our passion for the water environment, love of the great outdoors, and free-thinking, self-starting, problem-solving ethos.
About You: The successful candidate will hold, or will be due to graduate this year with, an MSc. in Hydrogeology, together with an undergraduate degree in an associated discipline (such as Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, etc). Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of GIS software packages is essential. Preferred experience includes field data collection, the use of data logging equipment/software, working within a strict health and safety environment and knowledge of hydrogeological modelling software. The role will suit a technically minded, innovative and practical individual with good time management skills and a talent for problem solving, who is happy working outdoors as well as within an office environment. A full current driving license is an absolute requirement for the role. As the role requires operation of off-road vehicles, such a license must cover manual transmission vehicles.
