Hourly Salary range:from Β£ 12.48 to Β£ 13.26
Are you passionate about mental health recovery and helping people take positive steps towards greater independence?
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and psychologically informed Recovery Beds Support Worker to join our mental health accommodation service.
Our Recovery Beds service provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people who are leaving mental health hospital wards and need a period of stability, space and support before moving on to independent living or their next stage of recovery.
The service offers customers a short-term βgetawayβ from hospital and the pressures they may have experienced, giving them the opportunity to recover in a more homely environment, reconnect with themselves and develop the confidence and skills needed to move forward.
As a Recovery Beds Support Worker, you will work alongside customers to understand what matters to them, identify their strengths and aspirations, and provide practical and emotional support that enables them to take greater control of their recovery.
You will use person-centred and psychologically informed approaches to build positive relationships, promote choice and independence, and support customers to make meaningful and lasting changes.
The role operates on a 7-day rotating shift pattern, providing consistent support and continuity for customers throughout their stay.
What You Will Do
Provide a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for customers transitioning from mental health hospital wards.
Work collaboratively with customers to understand their individual needs, preferences, strengths and recovery goals.
Develop customer-led support using person-centred and psychologically informed approaches.
Provide information, advice and practical support to help customers understand and manage their recovery journey.
Support customers to build confidence, resilience and practical skills that will help them move towards greater independence.
Encourage customers to identify what helps them feel safe, well and in control, and support them to develop strategies they can continue to use beyond the service.
Work alongside customers to identify their aspirations and develop realistic goals for their recovery and future.
Promote choice, autonomy and independence, ensuring customers remain at the centre of decisions about their lives and support.
Support customers to reconnect with their communities, interests, relationships and activities that contribute to their wellbeing.
Work collaboratively with mental health professionals, hospital teams, housing providers and other agencies to support safe and positive transitions.
Recognise changes in presentation, wellbeing or risk and respond appropriately in line with support and risk management plans.
Contribute to a high-quality, safe and dynamic service that responds flexibly to the changing needs of customers.
Maintain accurate and timely records, support plans, risk assessments and other documentation in line with organisational policies and procedures.
Promote a psychologically informed environment in which customers feel respected, understood and able to make positive changes.
Support customers to prepare for their next step, whether that is returning home, moving into independent accommodation or accessing ongoing community support.
Our Approach
We work within the BCHA Psychologically Informed Framework, recognising that people's experiences, relationships and environments can have a significant impact on their mental health and behaviour.
You will be encouraged to consider the person behind the presentation and to understand what may be influencing their current circumstances. Rather than simply doing things for customers, you will work with them, helping them develop the confidence, skills and strategies to achieve sustainable change.
Our approach is based on:
Person-centred support β putting the customer at the heart of everything we do.
Psychologically informed practice β understanding how experiences and relationships can influence recovery.
Strengths-based working β recognising what people can do and building on their existing strengths.
Choice and control β supporting customers to make informed decisions about their lives.
Recovery-focused support β helping people identify and achieve meaningful goals.
Independence β developing skills and confidence for life beyond the service.
About You
You will be someone who genuinely believes that people can recover, grow and make positive changes when they are given the right environment, support and opportunities.
You will be compassionate, patient and non-judgemental, with the ability to build trusting relationships with people who may be experiencing significant mental health challenges.
You will be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team while also being able to use your own initiative and make appropriate decisions within your role.
Most importantly, you will be able to see beyond someone's current circumstances and recognise their strengths, potential and aspirations.
Experience of working within mental health, supported accommodation, hospital discharge, homelessness, recovery services or a related environment would be beneficial.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to be part of a service that offers something different: a safe place to pause, recover and plan what comes next.
You will have the opportunity to make a real difference at an important point in someone's recovery journey β helping them move from hospital towards greater independence in a supportive, homely environment.
Every customer will have a different story, different needs and different goals. Your role will be to walk alongside them, provide the right support at the right time and help them recognise that recovery and positive change are possible.
Safeguarding Statement
BCHA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare, safety and rights of all customers who access our services. All employees are expected to share this commitment, follow safeguarding policies and procedures, maintain professional boundaries and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake relevant pre-employment checks, including references and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check where applicable to the role.
