The Liberty Project supports potential survivors of modern-day slavery and human trafficking. At BCHA we cover the South West, supporting clients in our safe houses, as well as in outreach. We support clients who have been referred into the National Referral Mechanism (NRM). Working with The Salvation Army via the modern slavery victim care contract (MSVCC), survivors are referred to support providers who offer specialist support, such as the Liberty project.

BCHA is seeking passionate, skilled Independent Advocates to work alongside survivors of modern slavery across the UK. In this role, you will empower survivors by helping them understand their rights and entitlements, supporting them to navigate legal, social, and community services, and ensuring their voices are heard throughout the process. You will provide trauma-informed, person-centred advocacy, working collaboratively with statutory and non-statutory agencies to create safe pathways for survivors into accommodation, healthcare, legal support, and employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver independent advocacy for survivors of modern slavery, including risk assessments, safety planning, and supporting access to legal and social services.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for survivors and professionals, ensuring coordinated, high-quality support.
  • Involve survivors in decisions and build confidence to foster independence.
  • Provide training, guidance, and expert advice to professionals and organisations on modern slavery and survivor support.
  • Maintain accurate case records in line with policies and safeguarding standards.
  • Support the aims of the IMSA Model, working collaboratively with team members and wider networks.
  • Keep up-to-date with legislation, policy changes, and best practices in modern slavery advocacy.

Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate academic skills to successfully complete the IMSA PG-Certification delivered by St Mary’s University as necessary to work as an IMSA - Two year tie-in required.
