An exciting role has arisen for a police staff Prepare Officer. Prepare is part of the National CONTEST Strategy and sits under the remit of ‘Protect and Prepare’ within the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit for Counter Terrorism Policing.

The CT Prepare Team is a small but dedicated team whose focus is to prepare for terrorist attacks and reduce their impact for the whole of the Eastern Region. As such, this role is open to officers from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. If the worst happens, we want to be suitably prepared to allow us to respond as quickly and efficiently as possible. To help us prepare for attacks, we regularly test our methods by holding exercises and testing CT plans across the region.

We do this in partnership with other P’s of the CONTEST Strategy, emergency services, local and national government departments and the military. This helps us understand the way each organisation works so we can come together for a major incident and act as one.

The Prepare team also maintain a debriefing functionality to assist with learning from testing, exercising and real-life incidents and investigations which facilitates risk management in the future. They also play their part within the National Prepare portfolio sharing knowledge and learning whilst assisting with bigger regional and national exercises.

This is a varied and stimulating role like no other within CT or Front-Line Policing which requires the successful candidate to be a focused and motivated problem solver. Strong communication skills, experience of managing a busy workload and proven partnership working experience are favoured.

This is an agile role, as per ERSOU guidance, and the successful candidate will be required to attend and facilitate meetings, training and exercises across the Eastern Region and on occasions nationally. Although standard working hours are 0800-1600 Monday to Friday (no shifts), a flexible approach is required to support out of hours events including exercises and live incidents.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the two-year National Prepare Training Pathway which runs alongside usual daily business and will provide required training to a national standard. All other relevant training and support will be provided by the Prepare team.

Working for ERSOU presents a fantastic opportunity for you to learn and develop within a unique law enforcement community whose staff and officers are dedicated to protecting the public from the threat of terrorism and serious and organised crime. We are committed to building a leadership team that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We actively encourage applications from individuals who are currently underrepresented at senior levels, including women, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, disabled people, and those from LGBTQ+ communities.

ERSOU as an employer can offer:

  • Blue light card discounts
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Opportunities to get involved with networking groups such as the network of women, LGBTQ+, parent, carers, health, and wellbeing.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria), Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria). Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Anyone holding dual nationality can make an application but may be required to relinquish non-British nationality if successful as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP.

If you have a disability and you meet the minimum criteria for the position you are applying for, you will be entitled to an interview under the ‘Offer an Interview Scheme’. It is recommended that you download and store a copy of the role profile as this will no longer be available once the advert has closed.
