An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Cancer Services Team within the Integrated Surgery and Clinical Support Directorate at Croydon University Hospital for an enthusiastic, patient focused and well organised individual to take up the position of Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Assistant for Cancer Services.
This is a key role within the Cancer Services Office and will be part of a proactive, talented team of MDT Assistants who are responsible for the incoming referrals via email, Cerner and e-RS and the smooth running of the patient cancer pathways by ensuring that coordinated and streamlined administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs. This role would entail working alongside MDT Coordinator’s, clinician’s and service managers.
Your responsibilities will include dealing with telephone queries and liaising with colleagues on a day to day basis. You will have regular interaction with patients via phone and will also be required to maintain good working relationships with a variety of clinical and non-clinical staff. You will be expected to understand and contribute towards a high standard of patient care and also to work as an effective member of a friendly multidisciplinary team. You should have a high level of attention to detail, communication skills, with the ability to use your own initiative and have a flexible approach to work.

Main duties of the job
To ensure that appointments for Cancer Services are arranged within USC (Urgent Suspected Cancer) waiting time targets.
To escalate capacity issues that compromise the ability of the department to meet the USC waiting time targets when appropriate.
To demonstrate excellent customer service skills to patients, GPs and other stakeholders via telephone, email and face to face
To ensure vetting processes are undertaken within agreed KPIs and to escalate to the relevant manager when these KPIs are not being met
To attend weekly PTL meeting to feedback on booking performance and capacity issues
To support the Effective Tracking of Patient Tracker Lists.
To contribute to the Effective Running of the Booking Office.

Person specification
Education and Qualification
- Educated to GCSE/ O level or equivalent including Grade C or higher in Maths and English
- Evidence of on-going continuous personal development (CPD) and training
Experience
- Experience of dealing with complex and sensitive matters over the telephone and, on occasions, face to face
- Previous appointment booking experience
- Experience of using full range of IT systems and patient data systems (including advanced understanding of MS Office packages, Cerner/ERS trained)
- Experience of prioritising workload
- Substantial experience in office environment
- Knowledge/experience of Cancer Pathway
Knowledge and Understanding
- Knowledge and evidence of how to contribute to a successful team.
- Knowledge of using information systems effectively
- Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary environment
