The Senior Financial Accountant role provides leadership and support to the Financial Accounting team.
The role ensures timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, as well as taking ownership of VAT, audit and taxation matters.
The role will also oversee delivery of month‑end accounts, forecasts and budgets for designated parts of the business and play a key role in the development of junior members of the team.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily finance operation for the Financial Accounting team in Derby, supporting the Finance Director and Financial Controller to deliver appropriate, accurate and timely financial information to the wider business.
- Oversee the reconciliation, submission and payments of the quarterly VAT return, corporation tax calculations and other HMRC reporting requirements such as PSA.
- Provide ad‑hoc advice and support in regards to VAT and HMRC reporting matters.
- Ensure key control accounts on the balance sheet are fully reconciled on a regular basis.
- Take a key role in the annual year‑end audit, liaising with the audit team and coordinating the internal workload accordingly.
- Oversee the production of financial forecasts and budgets for agreed areas of responsibility in accordance with relevant timetables.
Qualifications
- ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified, or qualified through relevant experience.
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills; SAP experience is advantageous.
- Experience within a project‑based, professional services or consultancy environment is desirable.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Professional, discreet, and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
- Proactive in keeping up to date with industry developments and relevant legislation.
- Previous experience in a similar finance role would be beneficial.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to support changing business needs.
