You will focus outbound efforts on engaging with technology transfer offices (TTOs), higher education institutions, and innovation centres, while also managing inbound interest from commercial clients across BCC’s broader research and custom project services. This is a key role in expanding our presence across academic research, innovation ecosystems, and commercial R&D buyers. You’ll work consultatively with senior stakeholders—often C-level executives—to understand their strategic priorities and help match them with BCC’s research capabilities and custom solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outbound Development: Research, identify, and engage key stakeholders within UK universities, innovation centres, and TTOs.
  • Inbound Sales Support: Respond to and qualify inbound leads, including from commercial clients seeking custom research and advisory work.
  • Lead Qualification: Assess inbound and outbound opportunities for fit, urgency, and potential value.
  • Outreach and Engagement: Use email, LinkedIn, calls, and event presence to generate interest and secure discovery meetings.
  • CRM Management: Maintain accurate records of outreach, lead activity, and pipeline progress within our CRM platform.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Align closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to shape messaging and go-to-market execution.
  • Industry Representation: Attend university showcases, research fairs, and commercial innovation events to generate leads and deepen relationships.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 3–5 years’ experience in business development, partnerships, or sales (ideally in B2B, consulting, SaaS, EdTech, or commercial research).
  • Strong understanding or demonstrable interest in research innovation, or higher education space.
  • Proven success with outbound prospecting and nurturing new relationships.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
  • Proficient with CRM tools (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce) and comfortable using digital outreach tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-discipline in managing pipeline and follow-ups.
  • Experience working with or selling to universities, spinouts, or TTOs.
  • Knowledge of IP, tech transfer, or academic research commercialization processes.
  • Familiarity with UKRI, Innovate UK, or other regional funding schemes.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to spot and pursue new opportunities.
  • Articulate and confident communicator with a collaborative attitude and strong internal influence.
