BC Financial Search is working with an established independent accountancy practice in Radcliffe that is looking to appoint an experienced Practice Accountant to join its team. This is a broad, hands-on role that would suit somebody who already has solid experience working within an accountancy practice and is comfortable getting involved across a variety of accounting responsibilities. The firm is looking for somebody who can come into the business, get to know its clients, systems and way of working, and then quickly become a dependable member of the team. You don't necessarily need to be qualified; practical accountancy practice experience and the ability to manage a varied workload are more important.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
  • Producing accounts from client records and bookkeeping information
  • Completing bookkeeping for a range of clients
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Supporting clients with their day-to-day accounting requirements
  • Assisting with the continued introduction and development of Making Tax Digital (MTD)
  • Using cloud accounting and accountancy software to maintain accurate client records
  • Liaising directly with clients and dealing with accounting queries
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure client deadlines are met
  • Getting involved with occasional audit assignments where required
  • Supporting the wider practice with a varied mix of accounts and general practice work

The position is deliberately broad, so it would particularly suit somebody who enjoys working across different areas rather than being restricted to one specific part of accountancy.

Experience and qualifications

  • Previous experience preparing year-end accounts within an accountancy practice
  • Experience working with sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
  • Good bookkeeping and VAT knowledge
  • Experience using accountancy software and ideally cloud-based platforms
  • An understanding of Making Tax Digital and the changing requirements affecting small businesses
  • The confidence to communicate directly with clients
  • The ability to manage your own workload and work to deadlines
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to get involved across the practice

ACA, ACCA or AAT qualifications would be welcomed but are not essential. Candidates who are qualified by experience and have strong practical accountancy practice experience will also be considered. Previous audit exposure would be useful but is not essential, as audit will only form a relatively small part of the position.

Benefits

  • Salary of up to £35,000, dependent on experience
  • Full-time permanent position
  • Varied role covering accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, MTD and occasional audit work
  • Opportunity to work closely with an established portfolio of clients
  • Broad exposure across a traditional accountancy practice environment
  • Opportunity to become an important and trusted member of a small practice team

Company culture

This is an established independent accountancy practice where employees are able to work closely with both clients and colleagues. Rather than working within a highly segmented role, you will have the opportunity to gain exposure across different areas of the practice and develop a detailed understanding of the firm's clients and their businesses. The firm is looking for somebody who wants to become part of the team for the long term: someone who can learn the firm's systems and processes, build relationships with clients and gradually take ownership of their workload.

If you are currently working within an accountancy practice and are looking for a varied, hands-on role in the Radcliffe area, please apply or contact Ben Copsey at BC Financial Search for a confidential discussion.
