The CIB Compliance team in Spain acts as a second line of defense within Corporate & Investment Banking, providing a cross-functional control and advisory framework to ensure that services aimed at large corporations and institutional clients strictly comply with regulations and compliance standards. As part of this preventive support role, the department supports innovative business units like BBVA Spark, a specialized bank initiative created specifically to drive the growth of startups, disruptive technology companies, and venture capital funds through financial and financing services tailored to their needs.

The CIB Compliance team is seeking an Associate profile to reinforce the Compliance Front Spark (Banking for Growth) function within CIB, with a particular focus on new business models (fintech and digital assets).

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Advise CIB business units, particularly the Spark unit, on processes and best practices to ensure regulatory compliance in the development of their activities.
  • Participate in projects to develop new processes or adapt existing ones to mitigate Compliance, Conduct, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) risks.
  • Provide specialized advice on digital innovation projects from an AML and Compliance perspective.
  • Attend to and respond to requests from supervisors, as well as both external and internal audits.
  • Advise BBVA Spark on Compliance matters (and particularly on anti-money laundering prevention) regarding activities related to startups, scale-ups, and venture capital investors.
  • Identify and analyze the Compliance, Conduct, and ML (Money Laundering) risks associated with the business models of Spark's clients, understanding their flow of funds.
  • Support the global expansion of BBVA Spark from a Compliance perspective, coordinating with local Compliance teams across different geographies.
  • Advise from a Compliance and AML perspective on the design of new BBVA Spark products or services, particularly those related to fintechs, digital assets, and financial and technological innovation.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in the financial sector.
  • Demonstrable education and/or experience in the Fintech ecosystem, with specific knowledge of the crypto sector and its implications regarding Compliance and anti-money laundering.
  • Fluent proficiency in English and Spanish (mandatory requirement).
  • Specific education and experience in the Compliance area will be highly valued.
  • Knowledge of CIB activities and businesses will be an asset, as well as an understanding of how its main operations (global markets, investment banking and finance, and global transactional banking) can lead to money laundering risks and international financial sanctions.
  • Knowledge of the Venture Capital ecosystem, as well as the funding and growth dynamics of startups and scale-ups, will be highly valued.
  • Ability to provide effective solutions under tight deadlines and in a highly demanding business environment.
  • Excellent management, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • High capacity for self-organization, proactivity, and autonomy in daily work.
