BBVA is a global company with more than 160 years of history that operates in more than 25 countries where we serve more than 80 million customers. We are more than 121,000 professionals working in multidisciplinary teams with profiles as diverse as financiers, legal experts, data scientists, developers, engineers and designers.

BBVA's Sustainability CIB team plays a central role in embedding sustainability into the Corporate & Investment Banking business. For BBVA, sustainability is a key growth lever: the bank has set a sustainable business channeling target of €700 billion for 2025–2029, after having channeled €304 billion between 2018 and 2024.

The team's first priority is to help CIB originate and structure sustainable finance transactions in line with market standards and BBVA's internal criteria. This includes Sustainability-Linked Loans, Green Loans, Sustainability-Linked Bonds and other sustainable finance products. The team supports business and product teams across the transaction lifecycle, from client dialogue and origination to structuring, validation, execution and monitoring.

A second key pillar is decarbonization. The team leads CIB's sectoral alignment plans, which define how BBVA achieves its portfolio alignment targets. This includes monitoring performance against decarbonization objectives, developing methodologies and governance frameworks, and building tools to assess the impact of transactions on BBVA's portfolio trajectory.

Finally, the team acts as a key coordination point between BBVA's central Sustainability area and CIB business units, translating the Group's sustainability strategy into concrete business execution, client dialogue, risk alignment and measurable impact across CIB. The function sits at the intersection of strategy, product, client coverage, risk and execution, reflecting its strategic relevance within BBVA's global CIB platform.

This role will help position BBVA as a trusted partner for clients seeking sustainable finance solutions in the UK market, while ensuring alignment with BBVA's internal standards, product frameworks and execution processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping reopen and expand a market where activity has been limited, identifying actionable opportunities and becoming a reference point for clients and internal stakeholders on sustainable finance products in the region. The role requires a strong balance between commercial initiative, technical sustainable finance expertise and practical execution capability.

Key responsibilities
  • Drive the origination and execution of sustainable finance opportunities in the UK, working closely with bankers, product teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Support client dialogue on sustainable finance solutions, including green, social, sustainability-linked and transition finance products.
  • Identify, assess and develop new commercial opportunities in the UK sustainable finance market, with a proactive business development mindset.
  • Build and maintain market intelligence on the UK sustainable finance landscape, including clients, peer banks, investor trends, regulatory developments and product evolution.
  • Act as a point of reference for sustainable finance opportunities in the UK, helping position BBVA as a credible and differentiated partner for clients in the region.
  • Contribute to the structuring, validation and execution of sustainable finance transactions in line with market principles and BBVA internal standards.
  • Support the execution of sustainable finance transactions in other geographies when required, reflecting the global nature of the Sustainability CIB team and ensuring consistent application of BBVA's sustainable finance standards across markets.
  • Contribute to CIB's portfolio alignment agenda in the UK, helping identify and assess how client activity, sector dynamics and potential transactions may support BBVA's decarbonization objectives and portfolio alignment targets.
  • Work closely with internal teams to navigate approval processes, product governance and transaction execution requirements.
  • Help embed BBVA's sustainability strategy into CIB activity in the UK, contributing to business delivery and measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Coordinate with relevant internal teams to ensure consistency across client approach, sustainability standards, internal tools and reporting expectations.
About the candidate

We are looking for a senior professional with strong sustainable finance product expertise and the ability to originate, structure and execute transactions with a high degree of autonomy. In addition to this core requirement, the successful candidate should bring one of the following two complementary strengths:

  • Strong knowledge of the UK sustainable finance market, including clients, products, peer bank activity and market dynamics, with the ability to quickly start originating and executing transactions while being trained on BBVA's internal processes; or
  • Strong knowledge of BBVA, its products, internal processes and execution model, with the ability to focus on opening and developing the UK sustainable finance market.

In both cases, the key objective is to find a candidate able to combine technical sustainable finance expertise with practical transaction delivery and a proactive business development mindset.

Experience and qualifications
  • Significant experience in sustainable finance, corporate banking, investment banking or a related field.
  • Strong sustainable finance product expertise, particularly across green loans, social loans, sustainability-linked loans, sustainability-linked bonds and transition finance solutions.
  • Proven ability to originate, structure and execute sustainable finance transactions.
  • Knowledge of the UK sustainable finance market is highly valued; alternatively, strong knowledge of BBVA's internal processes, products and execution model will also be considered a key strength.
  • Understanding of the competitive landscape in the UK, including client needs, peer bank activity and broader market dynamics, would be a strong advantage.
  • Strong commercial mindset, with the ability to identify business opportunities and convert them into client engagement and transaction activity.
  • Familiarity with internal governance, control and approval processes within a large banking organisation is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of decarbonization, transition finance and portfolio alignment considerations would be valuable.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across front office, product, risk, legal and sustainability teams.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Spanish would be a plus.
