We are currently recruiting a Passenger Assistant for our client based in Plymouth.
Job Purpose
To provide safe, caring and reliable support to children and young people travelling to and from school or college, including students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The Passenger Assistant will work alongside drivers, schools and families to ensure each journey is safe, comfortable and positive.
Key Responsibilities for Passenger Assistant
- Support children and young people throughout their journey, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and comfort.
- Assist passengers with boarding, travelling and leaving the vehicle safely.
- Provide appropriate support to students with SEND and other individual needs.
- Build positive and professional relationships with students, parents/carers, drivers and school staff.
- Help maintain a calm, respectful and supportive environment during journeys.
- Follow agreed transport procedures, safeguarding requirements and individual passenger needs.
- Communicate any concerns, incidents or changes relating to passengers to the appropriate person.
- Work closely with drivers to ensure journeys run smoothly and safely.
- Provide cover for other Passenger Assistants when required, sometimes at short notice.
- Remain flexible regarding routes, passengers and working hours.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a professional approach at all times.
- Working Hours: 2hrs / day
Requirements for Passenger Assistant
- Caring, patient and reliable with a genuine interest in supporting children and young people.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
- Experience working with children, young people or individuals with SEND is desirable.
- Understanding of safeguarding and the importance of maintaining passenger safety.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team with drivers and school staff.
- Flexible and willing to provide cover when required.
- Suitable for individuals returning to work, partially retired workers or anyone seeking rewarding term-time employment.
- Must live within the Plymouth City boundaries or be able to independently travel to a designated pick-up point within the boundaries.
- Willingness to complete relevant safeguarding, passenger assistance and other required training.
