BBS Recruitment is an independent recruitment agency specialising in the transport and logistics sector, supplying a variety of clients across London, Hertfordshire, and the surrounding areas. We are currently recruiting for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Worker / Gardener to work for our client based in Southwark and surrounding areas. As a Grounds Maintenance Worker, you will play a vital role in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming outdoor environments for residents. This includes communal green spaces, pathways, play areas, and estate entrances. Your work will help foster community pride and contribute to residents' wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities of the Gardener:
- Maintain lawns, hedges, flower beds, and communal gardens across council estates.
- Carry out regular litter picking and waste removal from outdoor areas.
- Ensure pathways, entrances, and communal spaces are clean, tidy, and hazard-free.
- Perform seasonal duties including leaf clearance, snow removal, and gritting.
- Report fly-tipping, vandalism, maintenance issues, or safety concerns to the appropriate council team.
- Operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and leaf blowers.
- Drive a 3.5-tonne van between sites.
- Engage professionally and respectfully with residents while upholding the council's standards of service.
Working Hours: 36 per week, Monday - Friday
Requirements for the Gardener:
- Minimum of 1 year's experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping, or a similar role.
- Full UK driving licence essential.
- Ability to drive a 3.5-tonne van is essential.
- Trailer towing experience is desirable but not essential.
- Basic horticultural knowledge preferred.
- Relevant qualifications in horticulture, grounds maintenance, or landscaping are desirable.
- Familiarity with health and safety procedures within public spaces.
- Ability to safely use and maintain outdoor tools and machinery.
- Good communication skills and a community-focused approach.
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
