We are currently recruiting a Family Support Worker for our client based in Cardiff.
The Family Support Worker will provide practical, emotional, and targeted support to children, young people, and families who require additional help.
The role involves working directly with parents and carers to strengthen their parenting capacity, improve family relationships, and promote positive outcomes for children identified as being in need.
Responsibilities of the Family Support Worker
- Work directly with children, young people, parents, and carers to provide practical and emotional support based on assessed needs.
- Support families where children have been identified as being in need, helping them to improve outcomes and reduce risks to children’s wellbeing.
- Develop positive and trusting relationships with families, encouraging engagement and participation in support plans.
- Complete home visits and community-based interventions to assess family circumstances, provide guidance, and monitor progress.
- Work with parents to strengthen parenting skills, promote positive routines, establish boundaries, and improve family relationships.
- Support parents in understanding and responding to their children’s emotional, behavioural, developmental, and educational needs.
- Assist families in accessing appropriate services, including health, education, housing, benefits, mental health, and community support services.
- Contribute to assessments, reviews, and child and family support plans by providing accurate observations, reports, and updates.
- Identify safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate procedures to protect children and young people.
- Promote children’s welfare, safety, and development in line with statutory guidance, organisational policies, and safeguarding procedures.
- Encourage families to develop independence, problem-solving skills, and confidence in managing challenges.
- Support families experiencing difficulties such as parenting challenges, domestic abuse, neglect, social isolation, school attendance issues, or financial hardship.
- Maintain accurate case records, complete reports, and ensure all documentation is completed within required timescales.
- Attend team meetings, training sessions, supervision, and professional development activities.
- Manage a caseload effectively, prioritising work according to need and risk.
Requirements for Family Support Worker
- Experience of working with children, young people, parents, and families in a support, community, education, health, or social care setting.
- Full valid driving licence and sole use of a vehicle is essential due to the community-based nature of the role.
